'Step Up Revolution' Stars Reveal Their Fanciest Footwork [MTV]

Complicated routines required dancers to get in touch with their emotions and walk on walls.

Anyone familiar with the "Step Up" movies is well aware that the films' selling points are the increasingly complex and eye-popping dance sequences. From the looks of the action-packed opening number and the words of the stars themselves, it seems that the tradition continues with "Step Up Revolution," opening Friday.
When MTV News caught up with Ryan Guzman, Kathryn McCormick, Stephen "tWitch" Boss and choreographer Jamal Sims, we asked them which of the film's complex routines was the most satisfying to perform.
"The contemporary piece between us," Guzman said, describing his duet with McCormick set to a slower ballad-type track by the Cinematic Orchestra. "I like it because it's something different that you don't really see in the other 'Step Up' movies. It was really emotional between me and her because I had never been a part of something like that. You just have to be free with your emotions doing something like that."

"That was one of the scenes that connected us the most," McCormick added.
For Sims, a veteran choreographer who's worked on several "Step Up" movies as well as music videos and stage shows for Jennifer Lopez, Usher, Madonna, Miley Cyrus and Boss, the most impressive feat is the climactic "wall dance" at the Miami shipyard, which occurs just before Guzman and McCormick's contemporary piece.
"Dancing on the wall because we really didn't have a lot of rehearsal time for that section and [the dancers] went up there and we could tell them what to do, but it's different when you're in a harness and you're running down a 100-foot wall at a slant," Sims recalled. "They had to get [the routine] and let it marinate really quick and let it out."
"That one in particular was incredible because that's like a male's dream come true, your inner child, your inner boy that likes to run and climb," added Boss. "Because you know you have a safeguard to danger so you just want to go, [you know] that no matter what you do you're going to be alright. So we were just having fun amongst doing the routine. Everything else was great. The good thing about the movies is that they portray dance in a lot of different lights and a lot of different scenarios so you know that going into it."
