Welcome to JLo.net Forum Awards 2007!

Most of you here have a fairly good idea about how Forum Awards work on our forum and since this isn’t alien to you people anymore, I want you all to play a part and be involved this time. This is why this topic has been created, as a Discussion Topic, before the Awards begin, so that everyone has a chance of participating (if they’d like to) by giving suggestions, opinions, contributions, etc. to make this years awards more enjoyable.

First and foremost, I want you’ll to take a look at the Award Categories (see the 2nd post of this topic) that we had last year. We had 29 of them, and after the awards were over, I had many people suggesting new categories that should be added to the list. I told you guys to discuss this with me next year… so all suggestions about adding new award categories / eliminating some of last years categories shall be entertained in this topic.

Secondly, I want to explain some changes in the way this years Awards shall be done. One of the biggest complaints was that “it dragged on for too long”… it will definitely be short and sweet this time, with lesser rounds & topics, but more categories in each round.
I’m glad to announce that JLOF’s sweetheart of a moderator, LaLoPeZgIrL, has taken the initiative and has shown interest in doing the awards along with with me this time. She is now in charged of posting the topics, which will be in the Announcements forum, immediately after we are done with discussions in this topic.

Finally, let’s talk about the hardest and most rewarding part, the Awards itself. Last year, the winners of each category received a special custom made Graphic Award with the name of the category and their username written on it. I would like to keep this prize as a token of appreciation to the winners and contributors of our forum awards for this years awards as well, but I’d like to say something regarding this -

This was a very time-consuming task for me, that kept me up for quite a few nights and I put in a lot, and I mean lot of hard-work into this, and I didn’t even have any help! (Many of you jumped at the idea of having a Forum Awards, but none of you guys came forward to help when I called for you’ll). Since that was the first-time that we did Awards in a big way and it was new to us all, I let it slip, but not this time. If I don’t have people volunteering to help out with making the graphic awards this time, this part of the Forum Awards is going to be canceled for good. The winners get titled as “Best Newbie”, “Most Helpful”, etc. which they are free to add as text in their signature space and that’s about it. I think this is very fair… Agree? but I really don’t have the heart to cancel the gfx awards, so here’s what we’re going to do...

There are a handful of you who have excellent graphic skills and are very well versed with Photoshop (I know who you guys are and I will come after you ppl if I am not satisfied with the number of volunteers, lol). Those interested in creating the Graphic Awards can contact me by PM. Your work has to be impressive cuz I have high standards for these graphics (please take a look at last years Graphic Awards to get a rough idea of what is required from you). I will discuss this with you people and will give you’ll instructions about the shape, dimensions, fonts, dead-line and other specifications about these graphics and will divide the work to be done category-wise between several members and this way, the work doesn’t fall on one person only. Ideally, if I get as many volunteers as I want, everyone will get about 3-4 graphics to make, which isn’t very taxing on one person. So tell me JLOF, what’s it gonna be this year – Graphic Awards or Text Titles in your signature space?

Alright, I’m done talking and now I wanna do some reading. I expect participation and contributions from many of you – graphic stuff, suggestions, nominating, voting, whatever it may be, I want everyone involved this time

I've been disappointed lately in the lack of participation as a whole. A lot of people say they want and this want that done, and what really ends up is 2 or 3 people doing the entire project together, or even alone. I'm not just speaking about the awards in particular, but many ideas that are suggested. As Jennifer would say, "let your actions speak louder than words!" With that said, I strongly encourage others to contribute. I myself won't be doing much other that suggesting things, but I take on enough projects as is and do a lot of behind-the-scenes forum work (in addition to posting content!). I may not say it every day, but I salute everyone who contributes to the JLo.net forums and makes this a place worth visiting.
