What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. Unless the cameras are rolling and it's the Billboard Music Awards.
Among the artists up for prizes and set to perform at the Sin City-set show, the event will also hand out awards to some of the industry's biggest icons, including Prince (Billboard Icon Award winner) and Madonna (Top Touring Artist winner). The fete will go down at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Sin City, with "30 Rock" star Tracy Morgan set to host. Need a little cheat sheet for what else will happen when the show airs at 8 p.m. ET on ABC? Well, MTV News has your back.



A Who's Who
Wondering who might be attending the festivities? These presenters never got a party invite they didn't respond "yes" to. So, who will be handing out the prizes this weekend? The list of presenters includes luminaries like Cee Lo Green, Kelly Rowland, Hayden Panettiere, Chloe Grace Moretz, Ke$ha, Carly Rae Jepsen, Psy, LMFAO's Sky Blu and Wiz Khalifa.
Going Stag
Justin Bieber might be hard at work on new music, but he'll take the stage and perform an unreleased Believe mid-tempo jam, "Take You." Will he run into Selena Gomez at the bash? Yes! She's set to perform "Come & Get It."

Other highly anticipated performances include, Chris Brown ("Fine China"), Icona Pop ("I Love It"), Bruno Mars ("Treasure"), Miguel ("Adorn"), Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ("Thrift Shop"), Ed Sheeran ("Lego House") and his pal and tourmate Taylor Swift ("22").
Friends With (Musical) Benefits
Not enough Bieber for you? Well, he's got your back. He'll take the stage with will.i.am (and hopefully not as a hologram) to bring "#thatpower" to the show. Other big match-ups will include Christina Aguilera and Pitbull, along with a special guest, for "Feel This Moment," David Guetta, Ne-Yo and Akon for "Play Hard" and Pitbull will be back for more. He'll also take the stage with Jennifer Lopez for "Live It Up."



Perhaps what might go down as the buzziest team-up will be when Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne perform "High School." Will they finally kiss? Only time will tell.
And The Winner Is...
We don't know who has won anything yet, but the odds are in the favors of Taylor Swift, Fun. and Maroon 5, as they are all top nominees of the night with 11 nods each. But don't count Adele out. Despite flying mostly under the radar, she still managed to snag a handful of awards for her 2011 release, 21, including Top Billboard 200 album.
"We Can't Stop"
Miley Cyrus just might steal the show. She announced the name of her Mike Will Made It-produced single, "We Can't Stop," Thursday night and has long-teased that she plans on doing something at the show to promote it. She's billed as a presenter, but she noted, "Big announcement about #wecantstop coming @billboard." Maybe the hype is for nothing and she'll just pull a Macy Gray.

The confetti has been swept up, the tiara placed on the head of winner Candice Glover and hope once again restored that "American Idol" might have found its next Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson.
Now for the hard work. Let's face it: Season 12 was a bit of a mess. The talent was lackluster, the attempt by producers to guarantee the first female winner in six seasons was obvious and the uncomfortable tension between high-priced judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj often made the show hard to watch.



The "Idol" brain trust has now tried an all-star judge reboot twice, and, clearly, that's not the answer. We know original Dawg Randy Jackson is gone, and it seems likely that Nicki, Mariah and Keith Urban won't be back either. And the Justin Bieber/ Diddy/ Selena Gomez rumor just seems silly.
So how does "Idol" reverse course before season 13? MTV News asked a few experts to offer their suggestions for what went wrong and how the show can get back on track.
"I don't think the problem was the panel," said Hollywood Reporter music editor Shirley Halperin. "Yes, there were problems, but that's not why people tuned out. The formula has gotten really stale, the contestants are not exciting and they have nothing to say. The show needs to reboot in a drastic way and they need to think about what today's generation of music lovers would like."
Halperin said step one for next year is to screen test the potential judges, get them in a room together and shoot some sample shows to see how their chemistry works, something she said it does not appear they did with this year's panel. "They seemed to have no idea Mariah was a long-winded as she was and there was an inkling that Nicki would be sassy and borderline mean, but not as much as she was," she said. "They didn't see how they worked together and the dynamic was not there."
The biggest change, though, is that "Idol" producers need to stop chasing after star power and find someone who is good on TV and knows their music history. "They need to have someone who can say, 'you better go to the record store and pick up this Beatles record right now!'" she said, alluding to the season 12 finalist's glaringly thin music history knowledge.
'American Idol': In Memoriam.
More than anything, she said, "Idol" needs to find judges with expertise on the label and performer side with nothing to lose. She suggested a producer (perhaps like Diddy, but less busy) with a real personality, pedigree, longevity and ability to make harsh calls when they're needed.
"The only way to combat viewer fatigue is to completely change it up, which [unfortunately] they won't do," said "Idol"-watching vet Halperin, citing the network's catch-22 of not wanting to offend the show's aging, but declining core audience to appeal to younger viewers.
TVLine.com senior editor Michael Slezak disagreed with Halperin about the judges not being the problem. He said it was maddening that right up until the end of season 12, we were still hung up on the judges more than the contestants.



"That's a big problem for the show," he said. "It is focused too much on those four people behind the table. When the music lasts 90 seconds and then the judges chatter for seven minutes ... it's just not that interesting. It's confounding to me that 12 seasons in and Fox and the folks behind the show still don't get what it's appeal is. They fundamentally don't get that what's fascinating is watching a travel agent, or a farm girl from Oklahoma become the next singing superstar. They can't become that if we don't get to hear them sing and that's not the focus of the show."
What has always differentiated "Idol" from other reality shows and its increasing competition is that it has given us stars and unique characters like Kelly Clarkson, Underwood, Fantasia and Daughtry.
As far as Slezak was concerned, Carey was just not good at the job, Nicki went from being fun to watch and brutally honest to a grating distraction and Urban was a fine, but mostly a benign presence who didn't really distinguish himself.
Candice Glover Is 'Losing It' After Her 'American Idol' Win.
He agreed with Halperin that whatever changes come down, "Idol" would probably get it wrong. But he offered a number of suggestions for how they could avoid that fate, including: hire three judges, not four, don't go for the biggest names out there and spend less money to get panelists who are invested in the show and will spend time on the set really digging in.
"Even in the Hollywood week and audition rounds, it just seemed like they were doing what the producers told them to," he said of the season 12 quartet. "It was preordained who would make the top 20."
What "Idol" needs, he agreed, is a radical makeover, with judges who are not pushing a career reboot (Carey, Jennifer Lopez), looking to broaden their mainstream appeal (Minaj) or showing middle America how much they really love music (Urban).
Like Halperin, Slezak said a music-industry veteran like Pharrell Williams or Linda Perry would be ideal candidates, thanks to their insider knowledge and eye on the star-making prize. "They've seen hundreds of acts audition for a label, and they can think about the money-making aspect [of building a new star]," he said. "Someone past their hit-making prime, but interested in nurturing up-and-coming talent, like Paula [Abdul] ... but with more edge."
Also, with the money they can save in bloated judge salaries, Slezak begged producers to spend a bit more money to clear some new songs so we don't have to sit through yet another Motown or Burt Bacharach week.

"American Idol" found its Candy Girl, as Candice Glover was crowned the season 12 "American Idol" winner on Thursday's (May 16) "Idol" season finale.
"I can't even, oh my God," an emotional Glover said when the results were read. "Three years!" she said, referring to her initial "Idol" tryout in season nine.



The 23-year-old from St. Helena Island, South Carolina, became "Idol's" first female winner since Jordin Sparks in 2007. After being joined onstage by the rest of the season 10 finalists, a teary-eyed Glover delivered her new single "I Am Beautiful," singing the words "he says I am beautiful" with her head pointed to the sky as confetti rained down on the stage and on the audience. Glover's family, seated in the front row, celebrated her victory.
Kree Harrison, the 22-year-old country-soul singer from Woodville, Texas, was the evening's runner up. A final vote tally was not given, nor was a percentage breakdown of the votes.
The results came at the end of a performance-packed two hour show. Just prior to the announcement of the winner, Glover and Harrison teamed up for a duet of The 5th Dimension's "One Less Bell to Answer," which ended with the two embracing each other at center stage.

The show featured a number of collaborations, with the finalists joined by superstars and ex-"Idol" contestants. Glover and Jennifer Hudson teamed up on Natalie Cole's "Inseparable," and the pair scaled vocal skyscrapers together during the showstopping performance. Angie Miller sang with both Jessie J (the two did "Domino") and Adam Lambert (on "Titanium"), while The Band Perry and Janelle Arthur teamed up for a head whipping, boot stomping performance of "Done." Amber Holcomb duetted with Emeli Sandé on Sande's "Next to Me," while Frankie Valli joined the male finalists for a medley of his hits. In the night's oddest performance, Aretha Franklin joined the female finalists via satellite for a medley of the Queen of Soul's hits, including "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman," "I Never Loved a Man," "Respect" and "Think."

The judges also took their turn onstage, in a pair of performances that were reportedly pre-taped. Mariah Carey did a run through of her hits, including heavily abbreviated versions of "Vision of Love," "Make it Happen," "My All," "Hero," "We Belong Together," and her latest hit, "#Beautiful." (Miguel, her "#Beautiful" partner, was nowhere to be seen.) Keith Urban, meanwhile, brought out "Little Bit of Everything." Later, Urban hit the stage live and performed "Where the Blacktop Ends" with Kree Harrison, Randy Jackson and Travis Barker.
Ex-judges even got their turn, as Jennifer Lopez returned to the stage to perform "Live It Up" alongside Pitbull.
A cheeky package aired coloring in the conspiracy theory about the guys all being eliminated from the show in succession. The punchline: The girls sabotaged the guys, and Jordin Sparks was behind the plot the entire time. At the end of the pre-taped video, Sparks lobbed a shot at one of "Idol's" competitors: "The good news," she told the guys, "is that 'Idol' leftovers have been doing really well on 'The Voice.'" Burn!
Later, a farewell package for Randy Jackson said goodbye to the Dawg.
The Top 10 opened the show performing The Wanted's "Glad You Came." Meanwhile, in the night's only non-"Idol" related performance, Psy performed his "Gangnam Style" follow-up "Gentlemen."

Attention fashion lovers, gossip hounds and all-around pop culture aficionados! Monday night (May 6) is the annual Costume Institute Gala, and that means fashionistas of all types will be descending on the famed staircase at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to pay homage to all things punk.
We know that before the red carpet kicks off and the champagne begins to flow, you might have a few questions. Like, who will be there? What does punk have to do with it? Will Kimye's outfits pay homage to Sid and Nancy? So, ahead of all the Met Ball fun, MTV News is rounding up the latest dish about the splashy fete.
God Save the Met
This year's exhibit, "Punk: Chaos to Couture," runs at the museum through August 14. It will take a look back at the influence the punk movement of the '70s has had on fashion, right through today. That means that you can finally learn there actually aren't that many degrees separating Johnny Rotten and Joe Strummer from Avril Lavigne.

Paging Queen Bey?!
Beyoncé has been named the Honorary Chair of the Met Gala this year. With a night off from her Mrs. Carter Show, she could easily make the trip from London to NYC just in time to show the fashion world just who runs it. "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" star Rooney Mara has also been named a co-chair of the event, along with fashion luminaries like Moda Operandi co-founder Lauren Santo Domingo, Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci and, of course, Anna Wintour, Vogue editor in chief.
Girls on Film
The guest list for the event generally reads like a who's who of Hollywood's biggest names. This year is no different. Rumored pairings include Gwyneth Paltrow and Valentino, the Fanning sisters with the Rodarte sisters, "Girls" star Allison Williams with Joseph Altuzarra, Elizabeth Banks with Brian Atwood, and Emma Roberts with Diane von Furstenberg. Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence and Marion Cotillard will wear Dior, and "Girls" leading lady Lena Dunham will rock Erdem.
Kristen Stewart is likely to attend with Balenciaga's Nicolas Ghesquiere, Twitter is buzzing. The gossip mill is also in overdrive that she might bring R-Pattz as her other date.
Pop Stars on Parade
Celebrities from the world of music also love to have themselves a good time at the Met Gala. The gossip is that Jennifer Lopez will arrive with Michael Kors, Nicki Minaj and Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry, a punk/New Wave icon, will be with Tommy Hilfiger, and Katy Perry is likely to wear Dolce & Gabbana. Teasing that she will be on-theme for the night, Perry said her look will hark back to "original punk." Other music-minded attendees include Miley Cyrus and Bey's baby sister, Solange.
And Then There's Kimye
Kanye West and Kim Kardashian have never met a fashion event they didn't want to attend. On Sunday night, the fashionable parents-to-be dined with the gala's other Queen Bee, Anna Wintour, at her NYC home. What better way to prep for the party than at a pre-party with the host? Baby Kimye isn't even born yet and is already attending better parties than 95 percent of the world!

At this point it's safe to say that the Nicki Minaj/Mariah Carey experiment was a dud.
While "American Idol" producers certainly got their money's worth from the turbulent twosome as far as on- and off-screen tension
 is concerned, neither diva has helped pull the graying show out of what appears to be a fairly predictable 12th season slump.
Ratings are on a steady slide,
 this year's remaining three female contestants have little-to-no buzz and viewers appear to be tuning in to a variety of other shows after making "Idol" appointment viewing for the past 11 seasons.
So, what do you do? According to Radar Online, you go back to the same drawing board again, roll the celeb judge dice one more time and hope for a lucky seven this time around. Quoting anonymous sources, the site reported on Monday (May 6) that producer Nigel Lythgoe's desperate plan to boost ratings is to assemble a "dream team" of new judges that includes former (and maybe current again
) couple Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, Pink and Sean "Diddy" Combs.
That would indicate that not only are Minaj, Carey and Keith Urban headed for one-and-done status, but that after 12 seasons sole original judge Randy Jackson might be on his way out as well. In this scenario, only host Ryan Seacrest's job is safe.While a spokesperson for "Idol" offered a no comment at press time on the rumor, the anonymous source told Radar that after a lackluster season, "Everyone involved with the show is well aware of it so that's why producers are franticly working on lining up big name stars for season 14 ... There's more drama going on behind the scenes of the show than on the stage, and that's why there's a major overhaul in the works."
It wouldn't be the first time this season that a judge swap was reportedly in the works. Recent reports claimed that nervous execs were considering dumping Carey and bringing back two-season veteran Jennifer Lopez.
 While a spokesperson for the show dismissed that talk as nonsense at the time, it would not be a surprise if "Idol" attempted another reboot. Aside from some cringe-worthy TV, neither Minaj nor Carey have proven to be ratings magnets. In fact, it's likely that Minaj's dismissive attitude toward Carey has turned off some of the show's rapidly aging audience and in a season when the talent on stage is tepid at best, Carey's passiveness has been matched by viewer apathy.
Keep in mind, producers introduced the 50 online votes at once feature this season and vote totals (at least those announced to date) do not appear to have gotten a significant bump.
The "Idol" judging roulette wheel tends to start spinning every year at this point in the season and while Diddy and Pink's names have cropped up on the shortlist before
 (with both turning down the offer), those veterans seem a tad more likely to sign on the line for big cash than Bieber and Gomez, who are both at the peak of their earning powers.
The reboot three seasons ago with Lopez and Steven Tyler provided an initial boost, but didn't ultimately help "Idol" as it continued any long-in-the-tooth program's inevitable ratings slide. Similar efforts on rival "The Voice" with Usher and Shakira have seemingly worked because that newer show still has the glow of novelty and the crackling, entertaining rapport between the judges has become an important part of the reason to tune in.
Considering the size of the Brinks truck they'd have to back up for any of the new judges — keeping in mind that Carey alone pulled down a reported $18 million this year — it seems unlikely that a financial scenario exists where it would make sense for Fox to spend that kind of cash on a show that is clearly rounding third and headed for the clubhouse.
Then again, there's little risk for the stars if they do decide to take a chance considering they'd earn huge paydays and if the ratings go up they are perceived as winners. And even if the numbers keep going down, well, the house was on fire when they went in.

Things are heating up this summer as the "Today" show and "Good Morning America" line up their respective summer concert series, continuing the battle for ratings supremacy.
The "Today Show" summer concert series is about to get a little more Fun. The rockers are confirmed to kick off the annual festivities on May 24. And one week later, the Package Tour will hit the stage with the New Kids on the Block, 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men.
In June, Maroon 5, Hunter Hayes and Phillip Phillips will all grace "Today." The following month, John Mayer, Musical March Madness winner Ed Sheeran and Fall Out Boy are slated to perform.
August is when things get even more star-studded. One Direction will once again perform on the show on August 23, just in time for the August 30 release of their 3-D film, "This Is Us." One week later, Chris Brown will perform on the show on August 30, closing out the lineup.
But, "Good Morning America" is offering up some counter-programming, enlisting divas to play the show taking place in Rumsey Playfield in Central Park. Mariah Carey will kick it off on May 24. One week later, Pitbull, will take the stage. And then "X Factor" stars Little Mix and Emblem3 will tag team on June 7. Carly Rae Jepsen will appear on the show on June 14.
Former Disney star, Demi Lovato, who will release her album Demi on May 14, will perform on the show on June28. Imagine Dragons are down for July 5. Meanwhile Jennifer Lopez will appear on the show on July 19 followed one week later by Selena Gomez (July 26).



Buzz rap act Macklemore & Ryan Lewis will play on August 16. "Walks Like Rihanna" singers The Wanted are playing "GMA" the same week as 1D on "Today" on August 23. And Alicia Keys (August 30) will close out the "GMA" festivities.
