This has really been bugging me and I just have to let it out .
I frequent this forum because I really like all the users around here .
I joined it back in may so I would say I'm still a Newbie Compared to alot of you ...

Anyways
I don't mean this to come off the wrong way, or sound negative or anything but I'm starting to really get the idea that there are no mods that frequent these boards, some of the users comments are getting out of hand, and the general organization of this forum is really lacking some work.

seriously, if you all want to make this forum the best it can be for the right reasons then we should try to change it up a little bit ...
It's just a suggestion.

It's getting really annoying because I keep seeing double, triple posts of the same topics over and over and it's becoming really loopy and unorthodox when I surf around the boards.

All media (audio and video) files go in the media centers - one dedicated to Jennifer Lopez (http://forums.jlo.net/forumdisplay.php?f=12) and the other for all non-J.Lo media or Off-topic Media (http://forums.jlo.net/forumdisplay.php?f=18). Members need a certain amount of posts to view both these media centers. All the other forums are meant for discussions and members can post in those forums without requiring any post-count.

The "All Things Entertainment (http://forums.jlo.net/forumdisplay.php?f=11)" forum is where you discuss movies, TV shows, video games & other computer related stuff. "Music Discussion (http://forums.jlo.net/forumdisplay.php?f=10)" is strictly for discussing artists, other than Jennifer Lopez, and their albums, videos, etc. "Pictures & Images (http://forums.jlo.net/forumdisplay.php?f=22)" is where you will find all pics - celebrities, random funny, scary & wierd stuff and finally, The "General Chat (http://forums.jlo.net/forumdisplay.php?f=9)" forum is where you can discuss anything that doesn't fit into any of the other forums, new member introduction topics, birthday wishes, etc. and it has a sub-forum called "Fun And Games (http://forums.jlo.net/forumdisplay.php?f=23)" where you will find all those 'what are you listening to now' and other silly games.

In fact, if you look closely, most Threads have an average of 60+ views
and right next to that number, you will see a number 3 sometimes 2 or 5 replies
It's rude.

The only time the threads make it to the 1,2,3, pages is when people contribute or post an image/etc.

The admins have lost interest in their forum and have not set any targets for their mods... with no limitations, benefits and no-one to ask them why they aren't doing what they are supposed to do, the mods slack off and have also become disinterested and extremely lazy.

I have been here for 2 years now and i've seen this forum going from very active, full of new posts and top notch to "what do i get if i contribute here?" and "who gives a shit anymore?" and it bothers me cuz this forum is special, at least to me it is, and i'd like to see some big changes here - more activity, interest and that's only possible if our forum leaders do their part.

well, after reading all your posts guys, lemme comment :D

first of all, to the topic of the forum, the way the Off-Topic forum is devided is the best, making a general off-topic forum would be a real mess, with news about artists, media, games all in the same place.

I'll see with what we can come up in order to keep the place cleaner (a moderator to each forum is one idea for now).

As for the look change of the forum, I'll come up with a contest soon, as for the layouts, gotta check with Pete, to be honest I dont really how this one works.

We had a banner contest before - Love At First Glow theme (http://forums.jlo.net/showthread.php?t=4547) and it drew lots of attention. Having a contest is not a problem, it's the making of a new layout for it that is the problem... no-one wants to make banners for the existing themes. StrippedB, if you know programming, especially CSS, you can handle it... though i must warn you, it is hard-work.

It's good to see that some of you mods (Kevin, StrippedB) have taken note of our complaints and you'll are doing something about it. We all appreciate the effort that you guys are putting in now, hope you'll keep this up :thup:

Agreed. I used to be active but I just lost interest as JLo wasn't kicking it for me with her Spanish album. So I left.

About the layout, I PMed pete one time and he said he was too busy to do anything with the layouts and that the ones we had were fine.

My layout suggestion was one layout per album. Like a On The 6 layout, JLo layout, etc.

Some names have been suggested of people that should be moderators, but those same people have explicitly expressed interest in NOT being a moderator.

Yes, I think it is overdue for Laura to have a promotion. Laura is now moderating ALL forums.

StrippedB has also been made an ADMIN quite a while ago.

Regarding rules/posting/thread organization, I have put a great deal of effort of explaining where what goes. I try to make it as clear as possible, but it also requires an effort on the user's behalf, particularly to simply read. I am open to ideas of somehow better conveying the idea of searching before creating a new thread, deciding where a new thread should go., etc.

And yes, I will admit there is some lackluster parts on some of us as far as enforcing the rules. I think that originates back to confusion and vague areas over the rules, but also unfortunately just being lazy, or the mod doesn't want to be depicted as the bad guy who always corrects everyone. Somebody mentioned the mods aren't objective when others are being insulted versus the mod themself - this NOT true at all. All users aren't notified when a person receives a warning. When you report a post, a thread is created for all of us on the staff to discuss, and we do. There is a lot of behind-the-scenes work going on.

Templates - my photoshop skills are horrible, along with my talent (or lack thereof) of putting the various elements together. And it takes a long time to set up the colors, fonts, everything. Yes, it involves CSS. There's a lot you can do with it, but it's really a lot of effort and time that I do not have. If somebody would like to work on it, then I am open to that, but I'm not expecting to get any inquiries (i.e. it's a lot easier to suggest something be done than actually do it).

CSS is only half the work. The next part is changing the templates around with HTML code to make the forum look different and place elements where you want them placed.

The CSS is the easy part really.

With most of the themes I have designed, I have mostly just changed the CSS and little graphics here and there. Notice how most of all the elements between the forums are in the same position. But really the templates don't have to be changed all that much.

So, there's 3 main steps:

1) Change CSS to match new color scheme

The first 2 can be done relatively easily. The difficult part is coming up with a design. And again, the templates usually don't need any major revamping. I will be happy to educate anyone who is seriously further interested.

I don't like using generators, i start my HTML & CSS from scratch... it takes very long, but i know exactly what code goes where, i like knowing all the little details :laugh:

Here are the PSD files. What you really want to look at are the ones in the largelayered directory. 1 file is used to represent several buttons, with each one on a different layer. Keep in mind you don't have to necessarily use these, but it will be more work. And yeah, there's a lot of images. But a lot of the stuff doesn't even need to be touched unless you want to...for example the poll graphics.

You can put any CSS you want in the 'Extra CSS Attributes' field. :s2wink: A generator to compile all the css together here is needed I think, to easier maintain and find what CSS styles apply to which elements of the page.

The Entertainment forum doesn't get a lot of posts, right now at least. Sub-forums are usually created to help seperate discussions that are popular and making it more organized, instead of having them all mixed in together and being confusing. If there were a lot of video game talk in the Entertainment forum, then it might be a good idea to make a sub-forum.

You can compair it with the regular forum rules but know you can explain here what the reasons are to bann members from the forum.....like spamming or disrespectfull towards other members

Sorry, I think it worded it wrong. You suggest a thread for suggestions, but I am saying we have this forum (Forum Help/Support and Suggestions (http://forums.jlo.net/forumdisplay.php?f=8)) for suggestions, so it is kind of the same thing. Hope that makes my question clearer.

Yes, I have been discussing Forum Awards with a few people. Laura said that she'll post them this time but she's going on a long vacation... I don't know if we should wait till she's back or not. Also, I will make a 'Forum Awards: Discussion' topic soon, where everyone can share their ideas about things like award categories, etc. I will also allocate in that topic, what needs to be done and who will do it.

I have a little suggestion... First, complete the theme that you have been working on for now. Time your time on it, make a banner for it, see how it goes before committing and jumping into things like the banner contest.
