People En Espanol Honors Jennifer Lopez

Friday, April 28th, 2006

While Angelina Jolie tops People’s most beautiful issue, Jennifer Lopez graces the cover of the magazine’s Spanish-language version.

Lopez is on the cover of People En Espanol’s annual “50 Most Beautiful” issue, on newsstands Monday.

“I’ve never tried to hide the fact that I’m Latina,” the Bronx-native tells the magazine. “I think that’s why Hispanics are like `she’s ours … she belongs to us.’ And that’s true; with the Latino community, I am theirs, I do belong to them.”

The 37-year-old actress-singer was also named as one of People’s 100 most beautiful people. While many fans await the birth of Jolie’s child with boyfriend Brad Pitt, Lopez isn’t currently planning a baby with husband Marc Anthony.

“That would be nice for sure,” she says. “I feel that will happen naturally when it does.”

People En Espanol’s unranked list of Hispanic celebrities also includes Eva Longoria, Ricky Martin, Shakira, Jessica Alba, Eva Mendes and Daddy Yankee.

“Control Myself” Drops Again on Hot 100

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

On next week’s issue of the Billboard Hot 100, “Control Myself” will drop from position 4 to 6. Last week’s re-entry position was due to the spurt in sales, which have likely slowed down significantly now.

Dallas director confirms JLO and John Travolta to star

Saturday, April 22nd, 2006

Jennifer Lopez, John Travolta to play Sue Ellen and J.R. EwingJennifer Lopez is about to become a scheming, alcoholic adulteress — once she passes through the gates of Southfork, that is. The singer/actress has signed on to play Sue Ellen opposite John Travolta’s J.R. Ewing for the big-screen adaptation of the television show “Dallas.”

Director Gurinder Chadha announced the news Friday (April 21), confirming reports swirling for months that both Lopez and Travolta were in negotiations for the parts with then-director Robert Luketic. Luketic parted ways with 20th Century Fox and New Regency earlier this month because he wasn’t happy with casting (other parts include Luke Wilson as Bobby and Shirley MacLaine as Miss Ellie). Who will play Lucy Ewing remains a cliffhanger. Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Jessica Simpson all are contenders.

“That would be an honor for me,” Simpson told MTV News recently. “I’m a Texas girl, so you can’t go wrong there.”

“Dallas” marks a return to big-studio fare for Lopez, since she recently wrapped two independent films, the Hector Lavoe biopic “El Cantante,” in which she plays the wife of husband Marc Anthony’s Lavoe, and the Gregory Nava-directed “Bordertown” (see “Coming From Jennifer Lopez: Big Projects For The Big And Small Screens”).

“Dallas” started airing in 1978 on CBS but won its biggest audience in 1980, when 83 million viewers tuned in to find out who shot J.R., a role originated by Larry Hagman. Sue Ellen’s role, meanwhile, was originated by Linda Gray. Series creator David Jacobs is also one of the film’s producers. Shooting isn’t scheduled to start until October, after Travolta wraps up his starring role in the big-screen remake of Broadway’s “Hairspray.”

Chadha, best known for 2004’s “Bend It Like Beckham,” is adapting another TV hit, the sitcom “I Dream of Jeannie.” “Dallas” is slated for a late-2007 release.

Jennifer Lopez Sued

Monday, April 17th, 2006

Jennifer Lopez was hit with a lawsuit on Tuesday. TV writer Jack Bunick filed a federal suit in New York against the singer, as well as CBS, UPN, and MTV’s parent company, Viacom, for copyright infringement. He claims that the UPN show that Lopez executive produces, “South Beach,” improperly used his script in a January 11 broadcast of the two-hour season premiere “Pilot/ I’m Not Your Baby.” (The script for that episode was credited to Matt Cirulnick, Greg Cirulnick, and co-executive producer Philip Levens).

Simon Cowell tears down JLo’s former house

Saturday, April 15th, 2006

We’re used to seeing him demolish aspiring singers on TV but now Simon Cowell has turned to houses. The American Idol judge splashed out more than £6million buying a Beverly Hills mansion owned by J.Lo but realised the decor wasn’t quite right. So, rather than redecorate, the multi-millionaire is knocking down the salubrious pad and spending £3million building another one.

Simon, 46, and his long-term girlfriend Terri Seymour, 31, fell in love with the sprawling LA mansion last year. But the self-styled Mr Nasty has since decided the property doesn’t have that certain, er, X Factor and he wants to put his own stamp on it. “Simon knows what he wants and as soon as he saw J-Lo’s house, he had to have it,” our real-estate spy tells us. “But it would appear that even Jennifer Lopez’s plush pad simply wasn’t good enough. When it comes to houses, money is no object for Simon so he hasn’t batted an eyelid at spending an extra £3million knocking the place down and rebuilding from scratch. “He has certain ideas on what he wants it to look like… and J-Lo’s minimalist approach wasn’t it.” Ouch!

La Lopez, 35, who sold the property because it was too much of a “movie-star house”, is famous for her love of all things white and clean-cut. “Everything in J-Lo’s house is pristine, shiny and new. It looks like it hasn’t been lived in at all – which is one of the things that turned Simon off. He is looking to create a more homely, lived-in feel and has lots of ideas for the different rooms.” We bet!

Favourites for the job of realising Si’s dream are extravagant property-designers-to-the-stars the Candy Brothers, who have worked for celebs such as Kylie Minogue and several Russian tycoons. They’d no doubt relish the task, considering Simon’s deep pockets. His property portfolio already includes a £7million mansion on LA’s Palm Drive, a £6million Victorian town house in West London, a £1million Arabian-style villa on The Palm islands off Dubai and a multi-million pound Spanish villa in Marbella. Talk about house proud!

Jennifer Lopez: On the Cutting Edge of Fun, Fearless Fashion
It’s a one-of-a-kind dress on a one-of-a-kind lady. Jennifer Lopez is all dressed up in a gorgeous Giorgio Armani Prive flowing black couture dress on the May cover of Harper’s Bazaar magazine.

“Jennifer never questions clothing,” said Laura Brown, editor for Harper Bazaar. “She never feels like she can’t wear something.”

Jennifer Lopez 2000 Versace Gown at the Grammys
Brown calls the fashionista fearless, which includes the infamous barely there Versace gown from the 2000 Grammy Awards. In the article, Jennifer defends the dress and said she was shocked by the negative response. “The chest area was the only sliver of skin showing,” JLO told the magazine. “There’s a fine line between sexy and trashy.”

With that behind her, the fashionista is busier than ever. Lopez just finished her steamy new music video “Control Myself” with LL Cool J, and she’s about to launch a mini-tour overseas. In addition, she recently wrapped “El Cantante,” co-starring her husband Marc Anthony.

So how did she possibly have time for her own designer line, Sweetface? “I have a great team,” J LO revealed. “They were sending me sketches, and sending me stuff all during the whole film.”

Jennifer’s style is an inspiration to many people, but she admitted that she admires two trendsetters. “Madonna, for obvious reasons,” Lopez said. “She’s reincarnated herself so many times.” The other is Gwen Stefani, whom Jennifer says has “carved out such a distinct style.”

In the Harper’s Bazaar article, Lopez also reveals some personal info about her main man, Marc. She says he put the brakes on her workaholic lifestyle, and for the first time ever she feels like she can relax.

“She mentions what a great support he is to her,” Brown revealed. “She did say something funny about how they going shopping together sometimes and he’ll be good for two hours, then be like, ‘Honey, I gotta have lunch.’ Like any man.”

You can read more about Jennifer and Marc, when the magazine hits newsstands April 25.

Jennifer on the May cover of Harper’s Bazaar

Friday, April 14th, 2006

Jennifer Lopez is on the cover of the upcoming issue of Harpers Bazaar magazine. The magazine hits newsstands on April 25. We’ll have some scans soon. For now, here’s an article that covers a bit of what’s in the issue.

Jennifer Lopez: Marc Makes Me ‘Chill’

Jennifer Lopez, Marc AnthonyWhen it comes to her look and her life, “I’ve always marched to the beat of my own drum,” says Jennifer Lopez.

But then, she also concedes to Harpers Bazaar for its May issue, she has a good accompanist – her husband of nearly two years, Marc Anthony.

“He makes me slow down and eat lunch, which I used not to do,” she says. “We have different philosophies. I’ve been so disciplined. His process is ‘Chill, don’t kill yourself.’

“Maybe,” she suggests, “I’ve got a martyr thing because I was raised Catholic. But with him I feel like I should relax and slow down. That’s a first for me.”

Of her low-key spouse, she says: “He lets his talent speak for him; he doesn’t feel the need to broadcast.”

When it comes to dressing, Lopez says, “I just don’t have fashion fear. I’ve always been able to see how many different styles can work.” That isn’t to say she didn’t get the jitters last year when she unveiled her Sweetface clothing line, which she calls ” the most nerve-racking thing I’ve ever done.”

Still, when it comes to style icons, she admires “anybody who’s fearless. Women who’ve started their own trends, who don’t care what other people are thinking.” These include Gwen Stefani and Madonna. “Those two have blazed their own trails.”

And when asked if she dresses for her husband – whom she admits “has a good eye” – Lopez responds: “I really dress for me.”
