Lopez, Rodriguez, Romero on Time list of influential Hispanics

Monday, August 15th, 2005

NEW YORK (AP) _ Time magazine has named singer-actress Jennifer Lopez, designer Narciso Rodriguez and American Civil Liberties Union executive director Anthony Romero to its list of the nation’s 25 most influential Hispanics.

The magazine also named Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez, actress Salma Hayek, broadcaster Jorge Ramos and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to its list.
Lopez was chosen, the magazine said in a press release, for her rise from background dancer to chart-topping actress and singer. Her clothing lines and fragrances brought in more than $300 million in revenue last year, the magazine said, making her the 19th-wealthiest person under 40.

The list is the topic of Time’s cover story, available on its Web site, time.com, and on newsstands Monday.

Lopez blames media for poorer roles

Tuesday, August 9th, 2005

Jennifer Lopez believes her overexposure in the media has prevented her from having a more diverse movie career, imdb.com reports.

The 36-year-old Lopez found it easier to convince directors of her suitability for a role when she was an unknown — leading to parts in films including Out Of Sight and Oliver Stone’s U Turn. However, in recent years stories of her diva-like demands and romances have made it harder for filmmakers to distinguish between fact and fiction.

Lopez says, “In the beginning, I was a blank slate. I got to work with all these great directors because I was just a girl who came in there and did well in the audition. Then when I became famous, I was being offered movies that I could star in but that’s all I was being offered. When I think I should be seeing the big directors, they don’t even consider me. They see me as a sexy singer and too much in the media.”

Lopez Considers Quitting Career To Be A Mother

Friday, August 5th, 2005

Latina beauty JENNIFER LOPEZ is considering quitting her music and movie career to become a mother.

The JENNY FROM THE BLOCK star believes you can’t be a successful mother and wife and have a job – so she’s prepared to give up work to devote herself to her family.

She explains, “Either you are going to be a bad mom and be a really good career woman and wife, or a good mom and career woman and bad wife, or a good mom and a good wife and your career is going to suck.”

McCartney Slams Fur-Wearing Lopez And Combs

Friday, August 5th, 2005

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY has slammed stars including SEAN ‘P DIDDY’ COMBS and JENNIFER LOPEZ for flaunting their wealth by wearing expensive fur coats – because animals are tortured to make them look good.

The former BEATLE has marked PEOPLE FOR THE ETHICAL TREATMENT OF ANIMALS’ (PETA) 25th anniversary by urging celebrities to watch the animal rights group’s videos – which show animals being tortured and slaughtered – before investing in animal skin fashion statements.

He says, “I understand all too well the attraction of, when you first earn money, wanting to show off. you want the most ridiculous furs, you want chinchilla dripping off you, you want jewelry.

“The trouble is, the difference between fur and jewelry is fur hurts someone. What PETA and I want to say to them is, ‘Look at these videos, because you are going to see electrocution, you’re going to see animals with their throats slit, and you are taking a beautiful animal’s coat.'”

Lopez Enjoyed Her Turbulent Love-Life

Thursday, August 4th, 2005

Latina beauty JENNIFER LOPEZ thoroughly enjoyed her turbulent love-life before marrying third husband MARC ANTHONY – and is thrilled by the public’s fascination with it.

The JENNY FROM THE BLOCK star famously married waiter OJANI NOA in 1997 and divorced him a year later, she then married dancer CRIS JUDD in September 2001 but left him after seven months.

She also dated rapper SEAN ‘P DIDDY’ COMBS and was engaged to actor BEN AFFLECK until January last year (04) – before marrying Anthony five months later (JUN05).

But she’s proud of her dramatic relationships and the interest they attracted from the media.

She says, “It was actually quite fun. Scary and fun. With intense experiences and things that are hard to go through, you eventually look back and say, ‘That was amazing.’

“I wouldn’t have done anything differently. I don’t think I did anything wrong. I was just running around doing what I wanted – just living. And the world cared, which was sweet.”

A bun in the oven for J.Lo?

Monday, August 1st, 2005

Jennifer Lopez is at the centre of a pregnancy riddle.

A source claims the pop diva, who is married to singer Marc Anthony, could be six or seven weeks pregnant.

The insider told America’s Star magazine: “It’s very top secret right now. She could be six to seven weeks gone.”

According to sources, a fashion stylist who works with the Latin beauty has already contacted several Los Angeles-based designers, asking them to assemble goodie baskets for the possible mom-to-be.

An insider revealed: “Having a big family is something she has always dreamed of.”

Jennifer recently admitted she has become a domesticated housewife since marrying third husband Marc last June.

The Latin beauty has developed a love of cleaning and now can’t stand messy rooms. She said: “I love to clean up. I can’t have a room that’s unclean.”

Jennifer also says she has become passionate about cooking.
She added: “I made pork chops last night. My favourite food is fried chicken cutlets, and I make those, too.”
