Jennifer ‘Depressed’ With No Child

Friday, July 29th, 2005

Thanks to Deb Giemza for submitting this – from IMDB.com:

Jennifer Lopez was so stunned when an interviewer asked her how she felt about her ex-fiance Ben Affleck expecting a baby with Jennifer Garner, she declared that the subject “depressed” her. Affleck and Garner exchanged nuptials late last month in the Caribbean, shortly before confirming to the speculating public that they were expecting their first child together. But Lopez – who split with her Gigli co-star Affleck at the beginning of last year, four months before marrying Marc Anthony – wasn’t expecting that she’d have to speak about the baby news when she sat for an interview with Elle magazine. Blushing, Lopez said of the pregnancy, “I hope that they’re happy. You know, it’s a beautiful thing. There are no hard feelings.” But when Elle apologized for raising the subject, Lopez, who later admitted that becoming a mother is one of her ultimate dreams, responded, “Yeah, you depressed me.”

Sony BMG In Airplay Bribe Scandal

Monday, July 25th, 2005

BEYONCE KNOWLES, BRITNEY SPEARS and JENNIFER LOPEZ’s music company Sony BMG has agreed to pay $10 million (GBP5.7 million) to settle probe into the illegal practice of paying radio stations to air its stars’ songs.

The settlement was announced today (25JUL05) following a “pay for play” investigation spearheaded by New York Attorney General ELIOT SPITZER which discovered the illegal practice was rife.

The probe uncovered massive corruption and even reported cases of Sony BMG buying holidays for radio employees. Emails between top officials showed that bribes were accepted and commonplace. A 1960 US law makes it illegal for record companies to offer radio stations financial incentives.

Mr Spitzer says, “Air time is often determined by undisclosed payoffs. This agreement is a model for breaking the pervasive influence of bribes in the industry.

“Instead of airing music based on the quality, artistic competition, aesthetic judgments or other judgments, radio stations are airing music because they are paid to do so in a way that hasn’t been disclosed to the public.”

Sony spokesman JOHN McKAY condemned the practice as “wrong and improper”.

The money will go to a New York state not-for-profit entities involved in music education and appreciation.

Sony BMG owns over 20 record labels, including J Records, Jive, Arista, Epic and RCA Records.

Lopez Denies Dressing Room Demands

Sunday, July 24th, 2005

Pop superstar JENNIFER LOPEZ blames over-eager aides for her reputation as a demanding diva.

Lopez has long caused controversy through claims she requests extraordinary on-set requirements – and she caused a stir on the set of MONSTER-IN-LAW for the same reason.

But J.Lo insists her publicists made the demands without her knowing.

She says, “My publicity people made those demands, I didn’t even know they were asking for those things.

“I didn’t know they were asking for candles and lilies in my rooms. They just appeared.”

Chicago To Have First J. Lo Boutique In USA

Friday, July 22nd, 2005

Jennifer Lopez has selected Marshall Field’s store on State Street in Chicago as the first U.S. store to house a boutique for her JLo line of products. The first JLo boutique opened in Moscow last year.

Electric-pink cargo pocket knit pants, a faux crocodile leather clutch purse and a wild rose camisole with a removable garter belt are among items likely to be featured at the singer-actress’ store within a store.

Planning with the Minneapolis-based Field’s began in March.

“We kind of approached each other,” explained Andy Hilfiger, president and co-founder of JLo parent company Sweetface Fashion and brother of designer Tommy Hilfiger. “Our long-term plan is to open concept shops in many stores, but Chicago is such a brilliant start.”

Lopez, who began her design career in 2001, is set to open the Field’s boutique on Sept. 22, when she’ll also attend a fashion show highlighting her clothing. The event will benefit Children’s Memorial Hospital.

Hilfiger said he hopes to open boutiques in department stores in New York, Miami, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

News From Contact Music

Tuesday, July 12th, 2005

Contact Music reported this today:

Jennifer Lopez’s third husband MARC ANTHONY stunned hotel guests and staff by refusing to draw a sketch for a charity auction – instead writing ‘F**k You’ on his slip of paper.

The high-profile couple were in New York attending J.Lo’s Bryant Park fashion show after-party in W Hotels’ VIP hospitality suite.

Celebrities who attended the event – including actress ELISHA CUTHBERT, comedian JOHN LEGUIZAMO and designer and socialite CHARLOTTE RONSON – were invited to draw caricatures of themselves to be displayed at W Hotels properties and later auctioned off for charity.

But Anthony stunned hotel staff by refusing to participate, instead scrawling his shocking profanity.

A source says, “Everyone was drawing caricatures, doing their little drawings and stuff to be framed.

“They handed a piece of paper to Marc, for either him or J.Lo to draw on.

“He wrote ‘F**k You,’ and passed it back. People were totally taken aback.

“And now the other art is touring, and they literally have his ‘F**k You’ in storage.”

The paper slip is currently sitting in the basement of the W Hotels headquarters in the Chelsea district of New York, and local newspaper the New York Daily News predicts it will soon appear on internet auction site eBay.

Lopez And Spears To Battle Over The Perfume Counter

Thursday, July 7th, 2005

Chart rivals JENNIFER LOPEZ and BRITNEY SPEARS are set to do battle in department stores this September (05) when they both launch new fragrances.

Latina beauty Lopez is releasing her fourth scent, Live Jennifer Lopez, on 28 September (05), after the huge success of her previous perfumes – Glow, Still and Miami Glow.

Spears joined the beauty market last year (04) with her eau du parfum Curious, and has decided to launch her new fragrance Fantasy.

Perfume expert DAVID WOLFE, creative director for Donegar Creative Services, believes entrepreneur J.Lo will win the battle of the scents, saying, “Jennifer (will win). Have you seen MONSTER-IN-LAW? She’s tough.

“My feeling is that this trend is going to last as long as celebrities do – I don’t see it ending, only accelerating.”
